Move Up to the Altar

Confession and Forgiveness

Pastor:  In the name of the Father, and of the Son +, and of the Holy Spirit.

Congregation:  Amen.

Pastor:  Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid:  cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy name through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Congregation:  Amen.

Pastor – If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. But if we confess our sins, God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.

Face Altar (can kneel) – brief silence for reflection, then lead off the Confession:

Pastor:  Most Merciful God

Congregation: We confess that we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves.

We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed,

By what we have done and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved you with our whole heart;

We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ,

Have mercy on us.

Forgive us, renew us, and lead us,

So that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways,

To the glory of your holy name.

Amen.

Face Congregation:

Pastor – Almighty God, in his mercy, has given his Son to die for us and, for his sake, forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the Church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the + Son, and of the Holy Spirit

Congregation:  Amen.

Gathering Hymn

P. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

Go Behind Altar

Pastor – O Lord God, we bring before you the cries of a sorrowing world. In your mercy set us free from the chains that bind us, and defend us from everything that is evil, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C Amen

Children’s Sermon

Second Lesson – Lay Person –

Pastor – Please stand for the reading of the Gospel.

P:  The Holy Gospel according to St  Luke the 7th & 8th Chapter

C:   Glory to you, O Lord

GOSPEL: Luke 8:26-39 KJV

26 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. 27 And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. 29 (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) 30 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. 31 And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. 32 And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them.

33 Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. 34 When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. 36 They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.

37 Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. 38 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.

Pastor – SERMON

Hymn of the Day:

(Following the Hymn:  Behind Altar)

Pastor – With the whole church, let us confess our faith by reading the Apostles Creed

Congregation: I believe in God, the Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord

Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again;

He ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

And he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Amen.

Prayer of Intercession

Pastor

The Sharing of the Peace –

Pastor:  The Peace of Christ be with you always.

Congregation:  And also with you.

Pastor:  Let us now offer each other the sign of Christ’s Peace.

Congregation shares the Peace with each other.

Offering & Anthem

As the Sharing of the Peace comes to an end, you can sit.  The Ushers will come forth and a Lay Person will hand out the offering plates to them.  The ushers will collect the offering as the Choir will sing the Anthem for the day.  During the offering, prepare the table by removing the cloths over bread and wine..  Following the Anthem, the ushers will bring forth the offering and a Lay Person will collect them.  The Lay person will then pass the plates to the Pastor for him to silently bless.  Once the blessing is finished, hand the plates back to the Lay Person.

Offertory Prayer

Pastor: Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things.  Through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts:  ourselves, our time, our possessions.  Use us, and what we have gathered in feeding the world with your love, through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C:  Amen.

Pastor:  The Lord be with you.

C:  And also with you.

P:  Lift up your Hearts

C:  We lift them to the Lord

P:  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

C:  It is right to give our thanks and Praise

P:  It is indeed right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you Oh Lord, Holy Father, Almighty and everlasting God, through our Savior Jesus Christ who on this day overcame death and the grave and by his glorious resurrection

opened to us the way to everlasting life.  And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth, and the hosts in heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, Holy, Holy will continue to be in the Red Book, page 108.

Pastor:  (Lifting the large wafer) In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:  Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.  Do this in remembrance of me.  (Lifting one wine cup) Again after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying:  This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.  Do this in remembrance of me.

.

Pastor:  Remember us in your Kingdom and teach us to pray:

Congregation:  Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, forever and ever.  Amen.

Pastor:  Come to the Banquet for all is now ready.

Congregation:  Thanks be to God.

Your Communion Assistant will come to the Table.  You will give the Assistant Communion first.  They will then give you Communion.  Communion will be given at the table each Sunday.  Once all that have come up are able, be sure to go to any member of the Congregation that could not come forward.  The Communion assistant will recover the bread and wine.

Pastor:  O God, we give you thanks that you have set before us this feast, the body and the blood of your Son.  By your Spirit, strengthen us to serve all in need and to give ourselves away as bread for the hungry, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Congregation:  Amen.

Pastor:  The Lord bless you and keep you.  The Lord’s face shine on you with grace and mercy.  The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace.

Congregation:  Amen.

Closing Hymn

During the 1st to last verse of the closing hymn, the Pastor will recess to the back of the church.

Pastor:  Go in peace to serve the Lord.

Congregation:  Thanks be to God.
